Revamped toolkit aids digital innovation in apprenticeships

Jisc’s apprenticeship toolkit helps colleges and training providers to use digital technology in course delivery.

Advice and guidance experts at Jisc have made it easier for educators to embed digital technology into apprenticeships, and improve the learner experience, with the introduction of a revamped apprenticeship toolkit.

The updated toolkit has been built on a new interactive platform and proves advice and guidance on how to embed digital throughout the apprenticeship journey, including preparation, planning, delivery and assessment, with an emphasis on practical support and ideas.

Guidance around the use of innovative technologies such as augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), and artificial intelligence (AI) are included in the toolkit to help bridge the gap between theory and real-life application and improve productivity. The toolkit is also available in an accessible word document and has been developed to reflect up-to-date apprenticeship and industry standards and practices.

Esther Barrett, digital capability and skills programme lead at Jisc, said:

“With almost all jobs today requiring some level of digital skill and know-how, it is important to ensure the use of digital is embedded across vocational learning as well as academic.

“The integration of e-learning platforms, extended reality (XR), and digital resources such as AI gives apprentices access to a wealth of information and training materials at their fingertips, making learning more accessible and flexible.

“By updating Jisc’s apprenticeship toolkit with new examples of digital innovation, and by making it easier to use, we hope it will enhance learners’ immediate apprenticeship journey as well as their future career progression.”
