Jisc to address the challenges of finding the perfect research management solution

Expert webinar will shed light on procuring systems for successful management of research information.

Jisc is hosting a webinar on 16 July 2024 to discuss the challenges experienced by institutions when trying to procure new or replacement research management systems, such as a repository or current research information systems (CRIS).

The webinar will cover what the challenges are, strategies that institutions can use and how Jisc can help, including supporting institutions to develop their requirements and making the procurement process more efficient using the research management system dynamic purchasing system (RMS DPS).

The webinar will be hosted by Jisc expert Kathryn Smith, product manager, research management, who leads on procurement and framework support for research management systems.

Increasingly complex internal and external research management requirements demand research management systems to facilitate seamless data sharing, collaboration, and interoperability across institutions, disciplines, and platforms.

There are many research management tools available – with differing sets of features and interoperability with other research systems, but these solutions can be costly and inefficient to procure. There are complex internal and external processes and policies to navigate and research professionals can find it difficult to determine which system will best meet their needs.

Liz Bal, director of product, research management at Jisc, said:

“Choosing an organisational solution for research management can be a daunting prospect, particularly for an individual or a small team. With this webinar, we are seeking to help institutions navigate the pitfalls and difficulties so that they can procure the right solution for them.”

The webinar, procuring a research management system: why is it so hard?, will take place on 16 July 2024 at 11:30 AM. Research professionals can now sign up to the webinar.
