About

This self-paced digital learning module introduces educators to the ethical dimensions of AI, helping you explore how values like fairness, transparency, accountability and privacy can guide responsible use.

Through real-world examples, interactive activities, and discussion forums, you’ll explore both the promise and the pitfalls of AI in education. You’ll also gain practical insights into how to apply ethical frameworks in your own context.

If you haven’t got a whole hour, you can revisit and take a section (4 in total) at a time.

New places released on the 1st of every month

This one hour digital learning module is delivered using our online course support functionality within Microsoft Teams.

You will be sent full joining instructions once your application has been processed.

Who should attend

This module is designed for anyone working in education who is engaging with AI tools or shaping institutional approaches to AI. That includes:

  • Teachers and lecturers
  • Curriculum leads and learning technologists
  • Senior leaders and policy makers
  • Support staff and administrators

No technical background is required—just an interest in using AI responsibly and a willingness to reflect on its impact.

What we cover

The module is structured into four key sections:

  • Why ethical and responsible AI matters
    Explore how AI is already being used in education—and why ethical awareness is critical to its success.
  • Ethical principles and frameworks
    Learn about national and international frameworks that guide responsible AI use, including the EU AI Act, UNESCO’s recommendations, and the UK Government’s White Paper.
  • Generative AI: risks and opportunities
    Examine the benefits and challenges of generative AI tools like ChatGPT and reflect on classroom scenarios that raise ethical questions.
  • Final reflection
    Share your thoughts, engage with peers, and consider how ethical principles apply in your own role.

Each section includes videos, interactive content, and opportunities to discuss ideas with other learners via Teams.

Training outcomes

By the end of the module, you’ll be able to:

  • Recognise ethical risks and opportunities in AI use
  • Apply key principles to real-world educational scenarios
  • Understand how frameworks can support ethical and responsible decision-making
  • Reflect on your own practice and institutional responsibilities

Pricing and eligibility

  • Jisc members: inclusive to membership
  • Non member, not-for-profit: £50 + VAT

This module is free to anyone from a Jisc member organisation (UK further education colleges, specialist colleges or higher education institutions). You will therefore need to register with your institution's email address.Non member, not-for-profit organisations, for example Multi Academy Trusts, schools and Independent HE, must register and pay to access this module.
