In a rapidly evolving education and employment landscape, how can we better support learners in making informed, confident career decisions? This session brings together voices from across the sector to explore innovative, technology-enabled approaches to career guidance. We’ll examine how digital tools can enhance learner engagement, improve access to high-quality information, and support more personalised pathways into work and further study.

- A live demonstration of CareerVerse, a new platform designed to centralise and modernise career guidance through:
- a dynamic knowledge hub of educational and vocational pathways
- sector-specific zones with up-to-date labour market insights
- interactive employer and training provider booths
- AI-powered tools for personalised career exploration
- Reflections from the Education Development Trust (EDT) on the evolving role of career guidance in education, and how institutions can align support with learners’ real-world aspirations and challenges.

- Dr Majid Al-Kader CEO mxreality, Co-founder of Metaverse Learning -
Majid Al-Kader has over 25 years of experience in mixed reality, digital transformation, immersive technologies, learning, and virtual and augmented reality. Majid formed the hugely successful Skills2Learn business, which employed over 75 full-time staff members and was acquired by Babcock International Group (FTS100) in December 2013. With a deep understanding of technology and its impact on learning and training, Majid is now the founder and CEO of several EdTech companies and is the driving force behind Metaverse Learning’s transformative, immersive learning programs. Majid has carried out extensive research in pedagogical techniques and the use of multimedia in education and commercial training, with a BSc (Hons) in “Mechanical/Automotive Engineering”, MPhil in “Welding Technologies/Industrial Science” and PhD in “Multimedia/Digital Learning and Virtual Reality simulation.” - Claire Roberts-Owen, Head of Metaverse Hub Solutions at Metaverse Learning - a global leader in transforming education and workforce development through Extended Reality (XR) technologies, including Virtual Reality (VR), Virtual Environments (VE), and Augmented Reality (AR). In this role, Claire leads the design and delivery of immersive learning solutions, collaborating with educational institutions and industry partners to co-create programs that address both current and emerging skills needs. Her work is centred on promoting cutting-edge technology to boost learner engagement, enrich blended and remote delivery, and to ensure training is aligned with the demands of modern employers. Through her leadership, Metaverse Learning continues to drive innovation and make immersive learning a powerful and practical tool in education and training.
- Mark De Backer – Head of Careers, Education Development Trust - Mark is a professional Careers Adviser with extensive experience in the field since 1999. He began his career working with schools and NEET individuals in West Sussex and transitioned to Adult Careers Guidance in Hampshire and Surrey in 2012. In 2016, he took over running EDT's National Careers Service contracts in South Central, later leading youth careers contracts nationally for EDT. His responsibilities include delivering services in over 130 schools in England, overseeing the ASK contract in London, and managing NEET programs in West Yorkshire. Currently, as Head of Careers at EDT, he leads youth careers initiatives and National Careers Service contracts. He is also an elected board member for the Careers Development Institute and Careers England, actively contributing to the careers landscape. Additionally, he has been involved in internationalising careers through programs in Jordan and Ethiopia.
