All over the country, colleges and universities are finding innovative ways to integrate digital technologies into student assessment and feedback.
From online testing to standardised marking and from learner analytics to your management information system (MIS), organisations have made great strides in using technology to make staff lives easier and improve student satisfaction.
But for many organisations, the area still represents a challenge. And that’s not surprising: as to enhance assessment through technology, you need to combine a knowledge of relevant technologies with a deep understanding of the assessment and feedback cycle – which can vary from subject to subject and course to course.
And even when you have that detailed understanding, you still need to apply it to educational practice across the organisation – ensuring staff in different specialisms have the capabilities and skills to make the most of your investment.
These are just some of the challenges that this service is here to help solve.
We can help you create a strategic approach to integrating digital into assessment and feedback – alongside the digital capability you need to deliver it.
How this service helps you
Our service helps you develop a strategic approach to digitally enhanced assessment – so you can improve the experience for both staff and students.
We help you to:
Create a consistent assessment experience for students
Our consultancy service helps you understand how ready you are to put technology-enhanced assessment into practice – so you can establish your technology, education and capability needs, and plan to fill gaps in your provision.
That way, you can design digital assessment around the learner. In turn, this can:
Increase levels of student satisfaction with the assessment process – helping you improve your organisation’s reputation
Help increase student independence and support inclusivity – helping you stay compliant with legislation and policy goals
Help improve digital skills, with benefits for student satisfaction and employability – as students work with primary digital sources, for example, or present arguments via digital presentations in front of a group
Improve digital capabilities
Enhancing staff’s digital capabilities is, of course, a key step in making digital assessment work. We can help establish if you have any training or CPD needs to help make the most of any investment you have made.
As digital capabilities improve, this may also make it easier to get to get buy-in for digital assessment across the organisation – helping make the case for investment in this vital part of the student experience.
How the service works
This consultancy service is divided into two parts: the practical advice and support to which you’re entitled as an inclusive benefit of your Jisc membership; and an extra, bespoke paid-for element for those who wish to go further.
Included in your membership
As part of your Jisc membership, we’ll have initial conversations with you to establish your blended learning needs – using online surveys where appropriate. As a result of this, we’ll write a short report with a list of recommendations – and signpost you to key Jisc resources such as guides, toolkits and case studies.
For organisations who need it, we can offer a range of paid-for services over and above your membership – such as training, facilitated workshops, and in-depth bespoke consultancy.
We also offer the following related services:
